I love this album.
One of the great concerts: Built to Spill at Irving Plaza on September 22nd, 2001. Eleven days after 9/11. Lower Manhattan looked haunted. So quiet, no planes flying overhead, hardly anyone out.
They came out and did two fantastic sets then came out and did a song they learned that day -- Imagine, by Lennon. Great.
Doug Martsch came out with a good solo album about five years ago.
wow, that sounds great. i've seen them twice here in portland. the first time they closed with a 20 minute version of 'cortez the killer' by neil young.
we saw them at lollapalooza in nc, right?
still one of my favorite bands.
Dang, you took that with you, didn't you? My record collection has some serious holes now. That album is so fab cuz it's alternately joyous then melancholy then rockin' then poignant.
Hey, where do you think they got their name? I have no clue, but I love it.
i have no idea about their name. it's odd, tho'.
and yes, it's with me. y'know, on vinyl. like all the cool kids have.
I remember seeing them at lollapolooza. They were playing on a side stage, right?
I always just thought of the name as a nugget self deprecation. Not built to last, built to spill. Designed that way.
Car, Center of the Universe and The Weather are three of my favorite songs.
i'd have to pick 'twin peaks' as my fave.
I'd have to go with Car, Twin Falls, and The Weather. And maybe Joyride.
I actually meant: Car, The Weather and Carry the Zero.
Same album, different song.
