RUNAWAY - Del Shannon

i've been listening to a shitload of dell shannon latley. he killed himself, y'know. he's just so good. such an amazing voice. great surfy guitar. and that keyboard! there's no one like him. you know, people of my generation were raised thinking the beatles were the shit. they were good, sure. but i'd put on 'hats off to del shannon' way before i'd put on sgt. pepper. in fact i'd like to be put on record as saying 'sgt.pepper' is a piece of shit. except for 'day in the life'. but really, is there a 'i just wansn't made for these times' on that album? no, there's not. fuck the beatles.

well, i really think both the beatles and del shannon were great. in fact, they were inspired by each other. Del Shannon was one of the first Americans to take on the British invasion sound. And Del Shannons "Runaway" was kind of the threshold between the 50's style rock n' roll that dominated the early 60's and the late 60's idiom that was perfected by the Beatles.
